At COROOS, we process many thousands of tonnes of pulses into high-quality products for the consumer market every year. In recent years, we have seen changing food choices among consumers with more and more vegetable protein sources being chosen. This year, COROOS joined the Bean Deal and is committed to growing and processing significantly more Dutch-sourced pulses. For this year, we will start adding some new Dutch pulses. Which legumes these will be is still unclear and mainly depends on the results from research and trial cultivation.
Together with Bram Van Looveren of Casibeans and Jurriaan Visser and Niels Vermue of CZAV u.a., we visited the trial fields in Lewedorp where, in addition to Brown and Kidney beans, Alubia, Borlotti, Red Speckled, Black and Small white beans, for example, are also grown.
The images speak for themselves, what beautiful beans and wonderful colours.
The legumes are almost ready to harvest. In the field, the plant dies allowing the beans to dry well. With the beautiful weather these days, that will be all right.
Thanks for a wonderful visit and on to more acreage of Dutch pulses!
